Its that time of time of the year, decorations are up and eggnog is flowing. Our office is fully prepared for the holiday season. At any given time you can quietly hear notes of holiday songs escaping from the headphones of team members around the office.
This year we decided to share some of our favorite festive tunes as a Three29 holiday playlist. We’ve collected our office’s favorite holiday songs and asked for a quick explanation as to why they chose that song. Its quite an eclectic mix, however, it definitely represents the diverse personalities we have. Wonderful Christmastime by Paul McCartney
People hate this song for its chintziness but to me that’s entirely the point. McCartney famously bashed this one out on a new (at the time) tape recorder that had a synth built in and that dated quality distills all the gaudiest elements of holiday decor and tinsel and metallic wrapping paper into this one sound. It’s a joyous salute to bad taste and that makes it perfect for the holiday.

The Christmas Song by Nat King Cole
For some reason, this is the first song I listen to each year as soon as the holidays hit. Nat King Cole’s silky smooth voice mixed with a glass of eggnog and Christmas tree decorating is the perfect way to get into the festive spirit.
Santa Claus Is Coming To Town by Jackson 5
This song just reminds me of how excited as a kid I would get each year for the holidays. There’s so much joy and happiness in this song, you can’t help but get a little eager for Christmas.

I really like EDM music as well as listening to some holiday songs during winter holidays. I was really excited when I found out that there are some mixes between the genres out there.

Christmas Treat by Julian Casablancas
Julian Casablancas took an SNL skit and turned it into a pretty decent Christmas song. I love The Strokes, so hearing the song done in their style is pretty cool. Just a fun jam.
Blue Christmas by Elvis Christmas
My parents bought the Elvis Christmas CD before I was born, and this song kicked off every Christmas of my life. I still listen to it every, even when I can’t make it home for Christmas.

Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree by Brenda Lee
When I was younger the first song that would play as we decorated the Christmas Tree would be that song and I have always hung onto that tradition and passed it onto my own children.

Growing up one of my favorite Christmas films to watch was Prancer. This track is a beautiful arrangement of the themes from the film. Whenever I listen to it, it gets me in the Christmas spirit bringing back sentimental memories from my childhood.
Act I: Nutcracker and Marie Depart for the Pine Forest by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky
It’s so hard to pick just one song from The Nutcracker since the entire album is Christmas to me. This particular song is the transition piece from the real world into the Land of Sweets, which brings up all the magical feels of the holiday season. The Nutcracker is another childhood classic that has stayed with me into adulthood. One of my traditions is to decorate the Christmas tree while either listening to the music or watching the movie.

Carol of the Bells has always been my favorite Christmas song, and if you’re looking for the perfect choral version of the classic, this rendition is for you.

This song got its start as a silly off-the-cuff cover from DMX and turned into a viral sensation. And I mean, who could blame the masses? Whoever doesn’t love a full grown man rapping children’s songs has no soul. This song is the hippest way to hop your holidays.

It’s hard to imagine anyone hasn’t heard this Dr. Seuss classic, but Jim Carrey’s take on it is as fantastic and creative as his performance in the film.
